Update 6: Impacts of COVID-19 on ASM: Insights from the ground

New Updates and Statements available on COVID-19's impact on the Artisanal Mining Sector:

• Responsible Mica Initiative,Responsible Mica Initiative participate in emergency response to mitigate COVID-19’s impact on mica-dependent communities.
  • After India imposed national lockdown measures, the Responsible Mica Initiative has reallocated funds initially dedicated to community empowerment programs for mica dependent communities to providing emergency support. In coordination with the local governments the program has setup four community kitchens, supplying food to artisanal miners and their families in mica dependent communities who are unable to work due to the national lockdown. As of April 7, the program has distributed over 5,000 meals.
