Stephanie Shumsky
Bio
Stephanie Shumsky is a Technical Manager for Pact’s Mines 2 Markets (M2M) signature initiative, working with corporate partners to assist mineral-dependent communities in the Great Lakes Region of Central Africa to gain lasting benefits from the more sustainable use of the natural resources around them. A U.S. Citizen and Canadian permanent resident, she has more than 11 years of project management, sustainability communications and corporate social responsibility experience in the U.S., Canada, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kenya, Senegal, Ecuador and Costa Rica. She has led diverse teams and managed budgets up to US$17 million per year to achieve a variety of triple bottom line objectives, from community-based marine conservation targets to environmental management system (ISO14001) certification at some of the largest companies in the extractives industry. Having spent the last two years in the Democratic Republic of Congo leading Tenke Fungurume Mining’s (TFM) Community Development and Stakeholder Engagement departments in addition to the TFM Social Community Fund, Stephanie is a confident manager of risk registers and sustainability reporting in accordance with CDP, GRI G4 and ICMM frameworks and in consideration of the IFC standards, Equator Principles and SASB guidelines. She has a dual B.Sc/B.A. degree in Biology and Environmental Studies from Brandeis University and conducted research on wild edible plants, food security, and land policy in Kenya to earn her M.Sc from McGill University. Working in Spanish, French and Wolof, Stephanie believes in the power of the private sector to make the world a better place and is willing to go wherever necessary to help make that happen. When she’s not supporting companies in their sustainability journeys, she can be found climbing mountains, practicing her handstand or eating ceviche.Resource Library Contributions
