Mining Engineer with BSc (Mining Engineering) from the University of Zambia in 1982, MSC (Engineering Rock Mechanics - Imperial College, London - 1987), PhD (Design of Decision Support Systems - Imperial College London - 1991). Have undergone a number of training in environmental management, environmental and social impact assessments, Environmental Audit and others. Worked as an underground mining engineer in Tanzania for 4 years (1982 - 1986), worked as Research Associate at Imperial College in London for 3 years (1991 - 1994). Worked for State Mining Corporation in Tanzania as a Development Manager (1994 - 1997) after which I established and run a mining & environment consulting firm (MTL Consulting Company Limited - 1998 - now). I have worked in the development of ASM with Governments (in Africa), International organization programmes, Financial Institutions and private large scale mining companies and NGOs. My work has included Formalization programmes, policy and regulation reviews, training, technological development, skills enhancement. Have participated in research for developing alternative technologies to replace the use of mercury and development and testing of ASM mining equipment. I have published more than 30 papers in several aspects of mining and ASM.
