Matt Hales is an experienced professional originally from Utah, USA, who has dedicated his career to developing the Artisanal and Small Scale Gold Mining (ASGM) sector in Kenya. In 2017, Matt gained first-hand experience in artisanal gold mining and became deeply acquainted with the numerous challenges faced by these miners.
Over the years, Matt Hales has been instrumental in implementing numerous successful and practical projects within the Artisanal and Small Scale Gold Mining (ASGM) sector in Kenya. These projects, which continue to expand and evolve, include:
Miners registration
Safety gear shops
Intern program
Training centers
Main offices
Partnerships with NGOs
Children's prosthetics initiatives
Drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs
Introduction of new mining technologies as well as many other engagements.
Matt has been a key figure in promoting mercury and cyanide-free gold processing and organising local and national mining boards in Kenya's ASGM sector.
Matt's unwavering belief in the power of practical projects stems from his full-time immersion in the ASGM community, where he lives and works. -Artisanal Mining Advocates:- (GCMF) The Global Community Miners Forum. The Artisanal Mining Advocates Global Community Miners Forum is an innovative platform designed to foster dialogue and mentorship between miners worldwide. We operate under the belief that the most effective solutions come from those with firsthand experience in the field. Thus, our motto: Miners Mentoring Miners.
This international forum is devoted to connecting miners, from novice to seasoned professionals, from across the globe, enabling them to share experiences, exchange best practices, and tackle common issues together.
