Artisanal Mining in Sudan - Opportunities, Challenges and Impacts
This presentation was given by the Ministry of Minerals, Republic of Sudan, at the 17th Africa OILGASMINE conference, Khartoum, 23-26 November 2015 as part of a series entitled “Extractive Industries and Sustainable Job Creation”.
The presentation provides an outline of ASM activities in Sudan: history, geographical distribution, gold production, current challenges facing artisanal mining sub-sector, impact of artisanal gold production on the socio-economic life in Sudan, contribution of artisanal scale mining to job creation and growth, interventions and way forward.
